About Us

For almost 25 years, Modern Hatchery Ltd. has been a trusted, knowledgeable industry resource in the production of post larvae shrimp. Established in 1997, Modern Hatchery Ltd. pioneered the production of hatchery-bred post larvae and is now one of the leading hatcheries of Bangladesh for artificial propagation of the Black Tiger Shrimp (Penaeus Monodon).

Our passion is to provide quality shrimp seed to the community and across the country, while offering unmatched customer service. Currently, our produce is supplied to various shrimp culture projects in the South-Eastern and South-Western parts of Bangladesh (Chakaria, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, Satkhira, Bagerhat and Khulna).

Since its conception, Modern Hatchery Ltd. has been continuously working to create awareness about the damages caused by juvenile shrimp fry collection from sea and promoting the efficacy of hatchery-bred, robust, sturdy, uniform-sized and active post larvae among the shrimp farmers.

Our facilities stretch over 5 acres of land at the heart of Cox’s Bazar, boasting state-of-the-art technology and expertise sourced from India. Through continuous expansion and upgrades, the hatchery capacity has now increased produce to about 800 million post larvae Black Tiger Shrimp per annum from the initial 200 million per annum. Our high turnover and rapid development have been achieved with a relatively small number of skilled staff. Due to this rapid business expansion, we decided to build a new production plant to sustain and improve our services for shrimp farming in the country.

As a result of our continual efforts and outstanding performance in the industry, we received Gold Medals from the Bangladesh Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in 1999 and 2017. The company is an active sponsor-member of the Bangladesh Shrimp Development Alliance (BSDA) to attain unified and uniform procedures and practices in shrimp aquaculture.

Process Description

The management is highly competent and professionally dedicated, complemented by skilled scientists, technicians and quality control supervisors monitoring the process round the clock to produce quality seed of tiger prawn. Our technicians and staff have over ten years of accumulated experience in the shrimp industry, thereby enabling the company to produce quality shrimp seed.

The highly successful methods and the consequent results of mating, hatching, nursing and rearing the seed to the biological stage are due to the eagle–eyed supervision of our team members. Larval feeds of highest international standards and quality are all imported and are optimal for the growth of the seed from the egg stage to the post larvae stage.

These seeds at early stage are transferred from green house to the specially designed outdoor nursery ponds in order to acclimatize them to exposed conditions, thus resulting in excellent, robust post larvae for grow out stocking by shrimp farmers.

A careful process of quality control starts right from collection of brood stock through to delivery. The entire production process is carefully monitored and checked from Brood stock selection of water quality management, maturation, larval rearing, post larval rearing and feeding regime, nursery acclimation, health care and delivery to farms. Laboratory checks and inspections are done on a routine basis by professional technicians using high-tech equipment.

Future Vision

Today, Modern Hatchery Ltd. is well poised to venture into integrated shrimp farming, with plans for investments in grow out farming with our own hatchery-bred SPF monodon PLs as stocking material and simultaneously create Nucleus Breeding Center(s) NBC and Domestication of SPF monodon brood stock in isolated or separate facilities ensuring stringent bio-security. Our future plans also include investing in a state-of-the-art Shrimp Diagnostics/Pathology Laboratory for our own use and also with the provision of offering third-party services at a cost.
